One of the most popular trek of Ladakh- Spiti Valley, Parang La Trek offers amazing views of snow clad peaks and wonderfully glorious mountains. The Parang La Trek starts from Kara hamlet till Karkoza and then the uphill way through Spiti valley to finally take trekkers to Tso Moriri Lake.The trail starts from Kibber, a village famous as the home to enigmatic and mysterious snow leopard, and after passing through 18,300 ft. Parang La Pass reaches Ladhak. Parang La (5600 m) is the source of Pare Chu River.
This classic Trans Himalayan trek offers a breathtaking view of Pare Chu River and retraces the historical trade route of Spiti, Changthang and Tibet. The river journey through India to Tibet and reenter the country in Spiti to reach Tso Moriri (15,000 feet) lake which is 27 km long and 8 km wide and home to bar headed geese, black necked crane and the Brahimini ducks.
the journey will start from Chandigarh to Manali. The first day will start by preparing your mind and body to face the challenges that might be thrown at you during the trek. Hence we will start the trek from Kibber to Dumla. It’s an easy walk but even then we need to be a little careful as these treks are known as little tricky.
Trek from Dumla to Thaltak Meadow- the day will start from first going down the gorge bed and then going up to Thaltak Meadows from dumla. High on natural beauty of deep gorges of Spiti river and forests around, thaltak is a great place to camp at night. Although it is at a height, it could become hot too due to the reflection of sun. So, carrying your sunglasses would be a great idea.
Thaltak to Jagtha to Bonrojen – it is a hectic day as we are going to be trekking to jagtha which is 8 km walk (15,700 feet) and then to Bongrojen ,another 6 kilometers (17,000 feet). It would be handy to carry the nutrition bars as the distance is almost equivalent to half of the Mount Everest.
Bongrojen to Parang La to Dak Karzong: post tea, a fresh continental breakfast and enjoying the morning fresh air we will begin our journey of five hours. The final 4 km trek to Parang La (18,300 feet) is a 2 hour steep climb that lies between Ladakh and Spiti valley. From here, you can watch Parilungi, the first peak of Ladakh, our final destination. We’ll start our downward journey to Pare Chu River, signifying end of steep gorges and welcoming acres and acres of broad plains. We will reach Dak Karzong and will halt for the night.
Dak Karzong to Datang Yongma: it is going to be an easy day as we’ll be walking in an open valley with a well marked trail. We’ll be going along the left bank of Pare Chu river, relaxing and enjoying the view. We’ll reach Datang Yongma and camp for the night.
Chumik shilde to Tso Moriri: a day to reach a stunning pristine blue lake, Tso Moriri, in the middle of wilderness. You’ll be seeing some wild Tibetan asses along the way. The beautiful Tso Moriri Lake gives way to form several channels to create vast wetland, home to several rare species of birds. It’s a heaven for avid bird watchers.

Tso Moriri to karzog: it probably is the most camera worthy trek as walking along the Lake Tso Moriri, we’ll be watching the magnificent Lungser kangri, the highest peak accessible at 6666meters in Ladakh. It is a truly beautiful view to keep in the memories forever. We will be visiting ancient monastery in Karzog where we’ll get to watch pashmina goats being hoarded by Changpas in their traditional yak-skin yurts. The Parang La Trek ends here and we’ll be doing overnight stay in the camps.
Karzog to Leh: you have the option to either book a private jeep that would be waiting for you at Karzog or can book a shared taxi to Leh on your own. You can also choose to stay back and explore more of Ladakh or take a car to Manali/Srinagar or fly back to New Delhi. However, it would be an additional service and not a part of the trek.
